Do you have summer traditions with family and friends? Traditions are a great way to connect with loved ones and create lasting memories. The Groves at Piney Orchard Blog brings you some summer traditions you can start this month in Odenton, MD — beginning with a Memorial Day barbecue. We hope you have a great summer inside and outside of your apartment.
Head to the park or a nearby campground for an afternoon of good food, conversation, and activities. Barbecues are perfect for socializing, so provide a few opportunities to encourage that by bringing along a frisbee or games to play around the fire. Games and activities can keep the party alive even when everyone is feeling heavy from the food.
Whether your family lives close or not, you can always throw together a family reunion with friends and family. Family reunions are a great time to reconnect with people and spend some quality time together eating and playing games. One great idea to plan for is a summer Olympics with all kinds of water and outdoor games. If your family and friends enjoy fitness, have morning runs or aerobic routines together. You could also go swimming or have other outdoor competitions during the reunion.
Outdoor Movie Night
Movie nights are fun, but outdoor movie nights are our favorite! Borrow a projector (if you don’t have one), find a blank wall, and watch a summertime movie with family and friends. Choose a movie favorite and make this an annual tradition. We have a few suggested favorites: The Sandlot, The Goonies, The Endless Summer, What About Bob?, Secondhand Lions, and Super 8.
Have an Ice Cream Soda Bar
An Ice Cream Soda Bar is a fun idea that’s easy and delicious! Buy some plastic 18 oz. cups, canned whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, soda (Jones soda is perfect and fun for this), maraschino cherries, and utensils. Find a cute bucket and fill it with ice to store the ice cream and sodas. This is a great tradition that’s easy to put together and definitely memorable with family and friends.
